Avanti Food & Beverage was Denver’s first newfangled food hall, bringing together an ever-rotating cast of gastro-upstarts under one roof. So big, in fact, that it takes up the better part of a block, with three bars and a dozen food counters serving pizza, fried chicken, salads, fresh fish, steaks, ramen, gelato and more for breakfast, second breakfast, tea, lunch, happy hour, dinner and snacks. You could spend weeks at Milk Market and not eat the same meal twice.

With no other food and drink options in the immediate vicinity of Freedom Street Social save for a Wendy's and a Starbucks, this collection of eight dining options is poised to be a huge draw for those who live in the neighborhood. The food style is more functional than hip, but there's still enough character to avoid the feeling of a mall food court. Among the options as of its summer 2022 opening are Osito, the fast-casual iteration of Culinary Creative's Mr. Oso; Lea Jane's, which is dishing up huge fried chicken sandwiches; Balance Pan-Asian Grille, where you order via tablet for a quick, healthy option; Chicago deep-dish chain Giordano's; and Jeremiah's Italian ice.

The food-hall trend hasn't slowed — in fact, it's growing and improving, as exhibited by the Golden Mill, which opened on the banks of Clear Creek in April 2021. Over three years, a historic mill was converted into a two-level destination for eats and drinks, bolstered by a pour-your-own beer wall, a large outdoor patio on the ground level, an expansive rooftop bar (the only one in Golden) and five food vendors. Three of those are run by executive chef Jesus Silva, who has gained a reputation as one of the city's top chefs during his long career in Denver. His Sushi Sora, located on the upper level at Golden Mill, is reason enough to visit, with top-quality sashimi, sushi and lunch-only poke bowls served with unbeatable views of Golden on the side.

Now home to several nonprofits and other services that include health care and a family lawyer, the facility houses a food court with international offerings, providing aspiring restaurateurs a place to share their cuisine. With stops ranging from Urban Burma to Jasmine Syrian Food, Natoli Ethiopian Restaurant and Nepali Spice, a trip here is like a passport for food lovers.
