  • Departure

    249 Columbine St. Central Denver

    720-772-5020

So you're not going to Cherry Creek for dinner, you say? Well, toss out your notions of hip Denver restaurant neighborhoods and head inside the new Halcyon Hotel for a taste of chef Gregory Gourdet's pan-Asian menu. The chef perfected his concept at the first Departure in Portland, Oregon, before coming to Denver armed with deadly accurate Korean bibimbap and Chinese dim sum and stir-fries (like XO fried rice with crab and Chinese sausage), along with Japanese-inspired sushi and skewers grilled over white-hot charcoal. Depending on where you're seated, you'll feel like you're aboard a luxury ocean liner, a space station or a mid-’70s jumbo jet. Prepare for Departure.

  • Elevated Rooftop Bar

    249 Columbine St. Central Denver

    720-772-5030

The rooftop extension of the pan-Asian eatery Departure on the ground floor of the Halcyon hotel is where you'll want to be when the weather heats up. The reason? There's a swimming pool that, while intended only for hotel guests, is a great accompaniment to tropical drinks, dim sum and general lethargy. Hang out high and dry in Cherry Creek, content in the knowledge that you're only paying for food and booze and not one of the pricey rooms below.

  • Uncle

95 S. Pennsylvania St. Central Denver

    720-638-1859

The Wash Park outpost of Highland ramen shop Uncle opened in 2019. Here, owner Tommy Lee offers a slightly expanded menu that only ups the appeal of his less traditional approach to the time-honored Japanese noodle soup. The intensely complex and tasty broths are a base for a nest of noodles and other delicious accoutrements. Years into this restaurant’s run, its popularity shows no signs of abating — though at this location, you can ensure your seat with a reservation.

Uncle, which opened in 2012, was Denver’s first modern entrant in the ramen-shop craze, and what an entry it was. Owner Tommy Lee took a less traditional approach to the time-honored Japanese noodle soup, creating intensely complex and tasty broths as a base for a nest of noodles and other delicious accoutrements. Years into this restaurant’s run, its popularity shows no signs of abating, and a Wash Park location added in 2019 offers a slightly expanded menu that only ups the appeal.
